Ordinance No. 2022-04 | Chapter 187 – Outdoor Burning
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Borough of Mount Wolf has declared an Outdoor Burning Ban pursuant to Chapter 187, Section 2(D)(ii) of the Borough Code (Ordinance No. 2022-04). This ban is currently IN EFFECT and shall remain in effect through May 13, 2026, unless lifted or extended by Borough officials.
During the duration of this ban, ALL outdoor burning within the Borough limits is strictly prohibited. This prohibition applies to all residents and property owners, including those holding a valid Burn Container certification.

REMINDER: YEAR-ROUND BURNING REGULATIONS

Even outside of a declared burn ban, the Borough of Mount Wolf strictly regulates outdoor burning. The following requirements apply at all times under Ordinance No. 2022-04:
PERMITTED MATERIALS:
- Seasoned, dry firewood only – burned within a certified Burn Container.
PROHIBITED MATERIALS (always prohibited, burn ban or not):
- Trash, refuse, or debris of any kind
- Yard waste, grass, or twigs
- Cardboard, newspaper, or chipboard
- Wet, painted, or chemically treated wood
- Plywood, construction waste, or shingles
- Tires, rubber, or rags
- Oils, gasoline, diesel fuel, or automotive grease
- Any material producing excessive or obnoxious smoke
CERTIFIED BURN CONTAINER REQUIREMENTS:
All burn containers must be certified by the Borough prior to use and must meet the following specifications:
- Maximum 36″ radius and 24″ in height
- Permanent structure with a metal screen cover (openings no larger than ½ sq. inch)
- Placed in a crushed stone, limestone, or cement bed with a 48″ radius and minimum 4″ depth
- Located a minimum of 12 feet from any building, dwelling, or structure
- A fire extinguisher or water hose must be within 5 feet of the container at all times during use
PERMITTED HOURS (outside of a burn ban):
- 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM only. All burning must be fully extinguished by 11:00 PM.
BURNING IS ALSO PROHIBITED (outside of burn ban periods) when:
- Wind speed exceeds 15 mph
- Drought conditions exist and/or state agencies request a ban
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- All outdoor burning must be attended and supervised at all times by a person at least 18 years of age.
EXEMPTIONS:
Portable outdoor grills and smokers powered by propane or charcoal and used solely for food preparation are exempt from the provisions of this Ordinance.
PENALTIES:
Any person found in violation of this Ordinance shall be subject to a fine of up to $1,000.00 per violation, per day, plus the costs of prosecution, and/or imprisonment as allowed by law for summary offenses.
